Artist, lithographer, and chromolithographer James Fuller Queen, known for his attention to detail and composition, was born in Philadelphia in either 1820 or 1821. He began his career in lithography at around 14 years of age. His work over the years was varied. It included advertisements, sheet music, along with city and country views. This sketch, from 1851, is a sketch of a saddlery in Shamokin, Northumberland County. Queen died on January 15, 1886, from multiple sclerosis. (Library of Congress)
