Biography

Terry M. Diener has spent most of his life as a writer and broadcast journalist. His fifty years on radio has included newsrooms in Pennsylvania, and as a correspondent with Family Life Network in Bath, New York . Writing, producing and airing podcasts for the Montour County Historical Society was a natural transition. 


Terry has written numerous articles for both the Montour County Historical and Genealogical Societies over the years. His writing profession includes two books. “A Storied Past: The Every Day Lives of Ordinary People in Montour County”, shares hundreds of newspaper articles on topics that include crimes, fires, horse runaways, the iron industry, human interest and the Civil War. His first book, “A Deed of the Foulest Kind,” details the story of two poisonings and the subsequent hangings of two convicted killers, a man and woman, in Montour County in the 1850’s. 

During the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, Terry wrote weekly newspaper columns following the lives of Montour County soldiers. He has portrayed Charles W. Eckman, who rose from the rank of private, to Colonel of the 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. During the popular Danville Iron Heritage Festival cemetery tours, Terry assumed the roles of some of the area’s most prominent citizens. 


Terry and his wife Ann are natives of southcentral Pennsylvania and have spent their entire lives within the wide expanse of the Susquehanna Valley. Since 1979, Montour County has been their home .
